Lammas, or Lughnassad, occurs in late July and early August. The Sun Gods life is waning like the sun, but the Goddess is full of abundance. Even as he weakens, he grows inside her as her child. It is marks the height of Summer and the beginning of the harvest. Canning goes into full swing, and magickal cabinets are stocked with herbs before the onset of fall. This is also a time to prepare your household for fall and the upcoming Winter months. It is the first of three harvest festivals and is usually associated with ripening grain. It is time to celebrate the fruits of the harvest but also to be aware that summer is passing and winter is on its way. Lughnasadh is a time of bounty, celebration, and hopes for an abundant harvest season we also celebrate the bounty of our own life's harvest. This is the time of anticipation and planning. All too soon winter will be here. This preparation for the dark seasons to come begins. We work towards our goals, and the harvest is a culmination of our efforts during the past year. The harvest is just begining so now we can take stock of the plans we began at Imbolc. Are they coming together as we had hoped? Now is the time to make adjustments. This is the perfect holiday to honor the prosperity and generosity of Mother Earth. |
